Multitudes on Mondays

(235-246)

Brokenness, the more I feel and see how broken I am, the more I cling to The Lord.

A gentle reminder from Him to live for the present and not for the future.

The gift of “now” reminding myself to live in the present is somehow giving me peace and rest.

Grace, everyday is grace from God, no matter how imperfect life may be, my ability to go through with life is grace from Him

My mess, shouting at my children, trying to manipulate them, choosing anger instead of understanding.  I’m not proud of those, yes Lord I need you more, and thank You for changing me each day.

Thank You for allowing me to grow as a mother to my children and wife to my husband.

Thank you Holy Spirit for rebuking me and allowing me to repent. Remind me always not to do it again and if ever I slip again, may you not get tired of pulling me up. May you soften my heart that I may repent hastily

Thankful for the rain, it seldom rains here.

Thankful for the air was good  and we were able to go out.

Today the weather isn’t that hot, I’m thankful for that.

Thankful for the book I’m reading “Letters to Young Pastor” by Calvin Miller

Thankful for the coffee every day.

Grateful…yes I am

Thankful for allowing me to be in this situation, I have learned to appreciate the things I took for granted in the past. You’ve taught me to enjoy and appreciate every season of  life, i wish I’ve realized that before.

{133-150}
Thank you for allowing me to accept our current situation.

Thank you for the healthy, fresh and abundant food we are eating everyday.

Thank you for letting me lose some pounds.

Thank you for we are all well.

Thank you for letting my two year old daughter sang God is good all the time and you are my hiding place, during the times that I felt low. The songs reminded me of your goodness and faithfulness, no matter what we are into, the fact remains, you are good and faithful.

Thank for paying our expenses.

Thank you for giving my husband the wisdom on how to handle money. I don’t need to tell everything but you know what I meant.

Thank you for the book I’m reading, the book speaks to me and I know it’s you who’s speaking you’re just using the book.

Thank you for letting me feel hopeful today.

Have I told you before how much I’m thankful for the house we are staying, I thought it’s not your will for us to stay in this house, I realized it was also part of your plan, what if we are renting while Albert has no job we would be spending a lot without any income, thank you so much

Thank you for helping me not to desire clothes, shoes and other material things. I’m really thankful that you are meeting our needs. Right now I’m no longer asking for the things we don’t need.

Thank you for teaching me to live simply, and teaching me to set aside my wants.

Thank you for teaching me to appreciate even the smallest things, like the toothpaste, brush, floss, soap, etc.

Thank you for we can still use internet.

Thank you for teaching me through my children. They are happy because their needs are being met. They don’t need new clothes to be happy, they don’t new toys to be happy. As long as we are here with them, as long as they have enough food. You know, we’re able to meet their needs. You are teaching me to be like them, as long as you are with me I should be happy, and as long as you’re with me my needs are being met.

Thank you for teaching me that you alone is the true source of joy.

Thank you for reminding me everyday that I’m a work in progress and i don’t need to be stressed. I’m still messing up, I shout at my kids, my husband and I argue from time to time.

But most of all thank you for your mercy, grace and love, they are new every morning

Rejoice Always….. I’m Trying

imageI came too early for the service yesterday, alone. The air quality index said it’s severely polluted, as much as possible we let our children stay indoor when the air is like this. My husband volunteered to babysit them. It was my first time to go out alone and was away for 4 hours, it felt odd though.

Our fellowship was in an apartment inside the university. It’s an international fellowship, mostly students from Africa, I sometimes felt like I was in Africa. We’re using three languages, English, French and Portuguese and sometimes Chinese yes I am probably the only person who doesn’t know how to speak Chinese, what a shame.

The place is small and oftentimes packed and cramped but no one really cares. We are blessed that we are allowed to have fellowship. There are limitations though since it’s in the building where teachers reside, we need to be quiet as much as possible. We can not just sing from the top of our lungs, we couldn’t play musical instruments.

Lately our life is full of challenges, my husband has no work until now. My visa was renewed for three months. I’m married to a Chinese national, still getting visa is not easy. We are still trying to find where we fit in the kingdom. We are just earnestly desiring to serve Him in whatever roles He called us to do. Our prayer is that He would be glorified with the outcome of our life.

Many things haven’t turned out the way we thought they should be. I guess that is how life is, we may not fully understand everything that’s going on in our lives, but one thing we know these are just temporary. The Lord is calling us to look up into His face and not to our injured and tired feet. He’s calling us to open our hands and just receive and enjoy His gift.

Each day is a gift, we’re grateful for letting us enjoy the simple things in life. As what Apostle Paul said Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NASB)

Random Musings

Today I walked 6 miles, I need to do it regularly until I give birth, last week I visited the hospital for my regular check up, my BP  was pretty high,  it’s 123/60, the doctor said, the normal BP for pregnant women here is 130, my BP worries me somehow coz sometimes I feel like my heart beats so fast. So far everything is going well, thank God.

God has been so good to us, His provision is overflowing. You see, our land lady blessed us with some baby stuff, maternity clothes, electric breast pump and my pregnancy pillow, my mother-in-law blessed us with baby clothes, maternity clothes and finances, my husband’s grandmother blessed us also with baby clothes. Our friends (Ricky and Susan) visited us yesterday, they baked cake and cooked for Albert’s birthday, and blessed me with a beautiful maternity dress, another friend(Ruby) gifted us with children’s book, well we only have few friends here(lol). Hopefully we won’t be buying baby crib anymore because Susan told us to give her cousin’s baby crib to us, YAY, isn’t God so amazing?

I’m staying at home wife and my husband is just doing part-time job, amazingly though, our needs are properly met, thank you Father for your faithfulness and thank you for making my husband a good steward of your resources, he’s good at it. Living a simple life is indeed a gift from you.

Next Sunday will be my last teaching on my Sunday school class, I told our coordinator I will rest for a while and maybe go back after six months.

My visa was extended for 3 months (I’m married to a local but still hard for me to get visa) thank God for the 3 months extension, they tightened the security because of the Asians Games. Two people I knew were not given visa. From time to time the government checks the church that I’m attending; locals are not allowed to attend.

We extended our stay here for another year, we are expecting for a better, productive and fruitful year ahead of us. It would be hard for us to transfer after giving birth so we decided to extend our stay here and we believe this is also what God wants us to do. We are expecting our angel last week of January or first week of February next year.

Exodus 20:3-5 “You shall have no other gods before Me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earthbeneath or in the water under the earth. 5 “You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me.

How to pray for Mainland China?

POPULATION OF CHINA: more than 1.3 billion

LOCATION: East Asia
% of the POPULATION that follow CHINESE FOLK RELIGION: about 29%

(Due to Communism, almost 50% of the population are now classified as non religious)
Restrict Evangelism

The growth of the Church in Mainland China since 1977 has been incredible, due to:
– the sacrificial seed sowing of thousands of missionaries for 140 years prior to the Communist take over in 1949
-the millions of intercessors worldwide who have prayed for China.
-the Christians who stood firm despite harsh persecutions.

This incredible growth and receptivity may only be for a season. Materialism with increasing wealth, corruption and moral decline are all working together to blunt the cutting edge of the Church.

Strict controls are maintained over Christian organizations and all unregistered activity is repressed wherever possible.

PRAYER POINTS:

PRAY for the House Church movement in mainland china. It is growing fast but it needs mature church leaders who can give good teaching and training to the many converts. Pray that the present openness in the midst of opposition may be used to the full.

PRAY also for the registered churches that they always prioritize God’s agenda.

PRAY for the Chinese students who are the key for the future. Pray that the Christians among them will be build up in their faith and be fervent witness for Christ.

WFW-The Mountains Declare the Goodness of God

The Lord is my stronghold, I will not be shaken

Psalms 125: 2 ” As the mountains surround Jerusalem, So the Lord surrounds His people from this time forth and forever” (NASB)

The Lord is my refuge, whom shall I fear

Psalms 11:1″In the Lord I take refuge; How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain”(NASB)

God’s love to me is unconditional, His peace is always before me

Isaiah 54:10″For the mountains maybe removed and the hills may shake, but my loving kindness will not be removed from you, and my covenant of peace will not be shaken,” says the Lord who has compassion on you.

God is enternal

Psalms 90:2 “Before the mountains were born or You gave birth to the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God”

There are places in China especially in the southwest part where people believe that their gods dwell in the mountains. They regard the mountains as their sanctuary, you can even see altars on top. They climb the mountains to worship their gods.  May you always remember China in your prayers.

I took the pictures when i visited Yangshou County in Guilin, this place is so popular with the foreign backpackers, it’s amazing to know that most of the locals can somehow speak and understand English.

My Frist Spring Festival in China

Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year, is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. Although regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration vary widely in China, the Spring Festival is a great way to spread a message of peace, happiness and prosperity for everyone. During this season people spend large amount of money for presents, decorations, food and for some clothing. It is also a tradition that every family should clean the house to sweep away all the bad luck and to make a way for the good incoming luck. Windows and doors are decorated with red color paper cuts with popular themes of happiness, wealth and longevity.Lanterns are red in color and oval in shape, decorations include Chinese nuts, paper cuttings, couplets and posters with Chinese sayings inscribed on it. In south china locals buy fresh flowers and citrus fruits like oranges, pemelos, etc., symbolizing luck, prosperity and longevity.

In the west they put Christmas tree during Christmas, in China they usually use peach bloom tree or orange tree and decorate it with red envelops. Also during this time that you can see people praying to their gods and ancestors this is common practice in the Southern part of China.

This is also a time for reunion, relatives from all over China and all over the world will go home to spend time with their families. Reunion dinner is held on the eve of the festival and usually in the home of the most senior member of the family, some chose to celebrate it in the restaurant. Dinner should include pork, duck, chicken, fish and sweet delicacies. In Northern China many families celebrate by making and serving dumplings, dumplings symbolize wealth while in Southern China glutinous rice cake is prepared and send to relatives and friends.

glutinous rice cake

After dinner some families may go to temples and pray for prosperity some hold parties and wait for the countdown.

The New Year is not complete without fireworks and red envelop with money inside of it. Red envelops are given by married couples and elderly to younger and unmarried relatives and for adults to children.

Dragon dance and lion dance are also common practice it is believed that the beating of drums and cymbals, together with the faces and aggressive dancing of the dragon or lion can drive away bad or evil spirits.

Greetings:

Pinyin: X¨innián kuàilè

Cantonese: San nin faai lok

English: Happy New Year

When children request red packets from adults, or singles request them from married couples, they will say:

Pinyin:   G¨ngx¨« f¨¡cái, hóngb¨¡o nálái

Cantonese: Gung hei faat choi, lai see dau loi

English: Congratulations and be prosperous, now give me a red envelope!

We spent our New Year in Shenzhen a city near Hongkong, while on the bus going to an entertainment park, an old lady gave us a track, she gave it first to the lady who was giving tickets but she did not accept it, she gave again to the man besides her, he refused to accept as well and finally she gave it to us, my husband accepted it, I can’t forget the smile on her face when my husband took the tracks. I wish I have the guts to do that, It was my first time to see someone giving tracks in the public.
