Here is my understanding of Proverbs 31,
She is a multitasker, she can be an accountant, a designer, a chef, a servant, an encourager, an investor, a counselor, she has a lot of skills. She is a fighter, she doesn’t easily give up. She extends her influences, and though she’s a multitasker and busy with her works, she does her work vigorously and without complaining. She maybe busy at home but she can still extends her hands to others.
A woman is a leader. She is full of instructions, of wisdom and of love. She never engaged in idleness or worthless talk. Because of that her husband is respected at the city gate where he takes his seat among the elders of the land (23)
She is responsible of taking care of her husband and kids. Though she’s busy with her tasks, her husband is her priority and the kids. She makes it sure that the house is a safe place for her family. She may have helpers in the house but she is the one who manages it, and so her children blessed her and her husband praises her.
She is full of laughter, she is the light of the house. She encourages her husband, she pulls him up. She gives him hope. There’s a saying that behind the success of a man is a woman. This is actually true. A woman can either make or break a man. She’s an influencer.
In verse 30, it says there that charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. What does it mean? This wife or woman in Proverbs 31 is called a wife or a woman of character not because she is beautiful but because she fears the Lord. Only a woman who find her worth in Jesus Christ can be called a wife or a woman of noble character. She looks at herself the way Jesus Christ looks at her. She finds her identity in Jesus alone. She doesn’t find her worth with others, with what she accomplished, with what she has, with her looks or beauty with her position but only in Christ alone. She doesn’t need to fight for her rights, even though others can not recognize that. She knew her rights, because she knew her position in Christ. And she can only do all these things because above all her relationship with the Lord is her first priority.
I am a Woman a Wife and a Proverbs 31 Woman in progress.
